The UAE FMCG market demonstrated resilience in Q2 2026, with shoppers maintaining consumption levels despite higher prices across several key categories. Recovering from the conflict, the country is expected to witness inflation which would put pressure on core living expenses such as housing, electricity and foods.
According to Worldpanel by Numerator’s latest FMCG consumer panel data, shoppers are increasingly adapting their purchasing habits rather than reducing consumption altogether. The most notable shift has been a move toward more frequent shopping trips with smaller basket sizes, helping households better manage immediate cash outlay while navigating ongoing cost pressures.
Food inflation reshapes shopping habits
Food prices saw some of the strongest increases during the quarter, prompting consumers to buy smaller quantities more often. Despite this, overall FMCG volumes continued to grow, supported by higher shopping frequency and an expanding shopper base. Convenience-oriented categories such as frozen foods, bread and ready-to-consume products benefited from changing lifestyles and demand for ease and flexibility.
supported by seasonal demand and increased purchase frequency. In contrast, Personal Care remained under pressure as consumers continued to rationalize spending and focus on core essentials.
Discounters and e-commerce strengthen their role in FMCG growth
Channel dynamics remain one of the most important stories in the UAE market. Discounters and e-commerce continued to outpace the broader market, gaining share and attracting more shoppers. Discounters strengthened their value proposition through affordable pricing, while e-commerce benefited from convenience, larger pack offerings and promotional activity. Both channels increased their importance across key FMCG sectors, particularly Dairy and Beverages.

Looking ahead, manufacturers and retailers will need to adapt to a market where shoppers are increasingly balancing budgets while seeking value, convenience and flexibility. Assortment optimization, pack architecture and channel-specific strategies will be critical as consumer shopping behaviors continue to evolve.
